Set up the screed. For additional information refer to, QEDQ9873, "Paving By The Numbers".
Null the grade control sensors (7) or (8)
Edit the target value (3)
Enable the automatic controls (5) or (6) During a Run
Once you have completed all the tasks in the "Before a Run" section, you are ready to pull off the starter boards and begin your paving run.Common tasks that you may need to perform during a paving run:
Check Depth
Check the depth of the mat for correct thickness
Use arrow keys (2) to adjust for the correct thickness
Edit target value to match actual depth (3)
Check Slope
Check the slope of the mat
Use arrow keys to adjust if needed
Edit target slope to calibrate slope sensor
Check Performance

Decrease valve speed    Switching Sensors
Cat Grade Control System allows for switching of sensors while maintaining "AUTO" operation. Some jobs require switching from the averaging ski to joint matching with a single sensor. Some jobs also require the switching between grade and slope during operation. Perform the following steps to swap sensors:
Continue paving in "Automatic" control mode.
Press and hold sensor select key (3) until sensor (1) is highlighted.
Use arrow keys (2) to toggle between all connected sensors.

(1) Stringline Guidance - Left screed extension should be retractedThe sonic tracer must be kept centered over the string line. In most cases the tractor driver will try and follow the stringline as closely as possible using the machine guide chain. However the driver may not have the fine control required to center the sensor over the string, or the string line may be curved.
