Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Start the machine. Fully retract bucket cylinder (1). Lower the bucket and the stick to the ground.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil is hot and under pressure. Hot oils can cause burns. To prevent possible personal injury, release the pressure in the implement hydraulic circuit (boom, stick, bucket, and swing), travel circuits, and the hydraulic oil tank at the filler cap before any hydraulic lines or components are disconnected or removed.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped and the filler cap is cool enough to touch.
Release the hydraulic system pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" in this manual.

Disconnect two hydraulic hose assemblies (2) from the right side of the bucket cylinder. Install plugs on the hose assemblies and on the bucket cylinder. This procedure will prevent oil loss. The procedure also prevents contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect two hydraulic hose assemblies (3) from the left side of the bucket cylinder. Install plugs on the hose assemblies and on the bucket cylinder. This procedure will prevent oil loss. The procedure also prevents contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.
Fasten a lifting sling and a hoist to both ends of bucket cylinder (1) .
Place a small amount of lifting tension on the rod end of the bucket cylinder.Note: The machine may be equipped with shims between the components at the pin joints. Place identification marks on the shims in order to show the location of the shims.

Remove retaining bolt (4) and the washer.
Use a hammer and a punch to remove pin assembly (5) and the shims (if equipped) at the rod end of bucket cylinder (1).
Illustration 4 g00275224
Raise bucket cylinder (1) to the horizontal position. Remove retaining bolt (6) and the washer.
Use a hammer and a punch to remove pin assembly (7) and the shims (if equipped) at the head end of bucket cylinder (1). The weight of bucket cylinder (1) is 136 kg (300 lb).
