This Program must be administered either before or after failure.In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS45553" as the Part Numberand "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code.If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the 26Jul2017 (Revised 31Jul2017) Service Letter. A change was made to the Service Claim Allowances.

PROBLEM
The existing oil mist detector seals can leak on certain 3516E, and C175-16 Marine Engines. If the existing seal fails it will leak oil onto the the engine block.

PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling.
Rework Procedure
Four seals need to be replaced on each oil mist detector (OMD). The o-ring seal under the OMD flange will need to be replaced. The seal washers on the bottom of the detector head will need to be replaced. The large seal under the detector head will also need to be replaced.
Note: Do not remove or loosen the nut which positions the OMD flange.
Note: Refer to Image1.1.1 for OMD details.
Note: For C175 seal replacement only, the detectors behind the thermostat and fuel pump can be removed without removing other iron. The detector head should be removed first. This will allow the body to rotate for removal.
First remove any wires connected to the OMD.
To remove the OMD loosen the two bolts which secure the OMD flange to the block side cover.
Once the OMD has been removed loosen the two M6 screws under the OMD head unit. The OMD head will then be removable. Please use caution removing the screws
