(A) Interaxle Differential Lock
(B) Cross Axle Differential Locks There are two types of differential locks that may be engaged. The first type of differential lock is the interaxle differential lock. When disengaged the interaxle differential lock (A) divides the torque between the front and rear frames. There is 40% torque to the front axle and 60% torque to the center and rear axles. When engaged the interaxle differential lock (A) evenly divides the torque distribution. 50% to the front axle and 50% to the center and rear axles. Even torque distribution allows for improved traction capability to the front axle when poor traction could cause the front axle to spin.If additional traction is required, the cross axle differential locks (B) may also be engaged. When engaged, the cross axle differential locks evenly divide the torque distribution, 50% to the left wheels and 50% to the right wheels. Even torque distribution allows for improved traction capability in bad conditions.
Use the differential lock only in conditions where wheel spin has, or will be encountered. If wheel spin has already developed, release pressure from the accelerator pedal and allow the engine speed to fall sufficiently to stop wheel spin before engaging the differential lock. Failure to follow this procedure can result in machine damage.Keep steering maneuvers to a minimum when the differential lock is engaged. Steering maneuvers with the differential lock engaged can result in machine damage.
Incorrect use of the interaxle differential lock and of the cross axle differential locks will cause severe machine damage. Use the locks only in very soft ground. Disengage the locks as soon as ground conditions allow.
Illustration 2 g01430240Normal Operation
It is not necessary to operate the interaxle lock or the cross axle differential locks during normal operation when ground conditions are suitable for good traction.Interaxle Differential Lock
The interaxle differential lock can be engaged while the machine is in motion. The interaxle differential lock can be disengaged while the machine is in motion. However, do not engage the interaxle differential lock during wheel spin.Depress the floor
