Off-Site Diagnostics
Note: Some steps of the "Off-Site Diagnostics" sections are dependent upon the customer being on-site.
Ensure that "User Interface" is receiving new data from the equipment after selecting the "Update" button on the equipment page of Product Link Web or the "Update" button on VisionLink.
If Product Link checks in, and the GPS location is updated, return the system to service.
"User Interface" is not receiving new data. Refer to System Operation Troubleshooting Testing and Adjusting, UENR5823, "Cellular Radio Does Not Communicate" or "Satellite Radio Does Not Communicate".
"User Interface" is receiving data from the equipment, but the GPS location is not updating. Refer to Step 2.
Determine if the customer is using a PL641 or PL631 radio supplied through Caterpillar.
If the customer is not using a Caterpillar approved radio, then the customers GPS may not be supported. A list of Caterpillar supported radios can be found in Special Instruction, REHS8850.
If the customer is using a Caterpillar supplied radio, proceed to Step 3.
Request the location of the equipment. Ask the customer where the equipment is located and if the radio antenna has a clear line of sight to the sky.
If the equipment was inside a building or under/next to a large obstacle, have the customer attempt to move the equipment to a more open location with a clear line of sight to the sky.
If the equipment was in a clear line of sight to the sky, then refer to Special Instruction, REHS8850 for proper placement of the antenna.
If the antenna was in the proper location, refer to "On-Site Diagnostics".On-Site Diagnostics
Note: When a GPS location is valid, "Fix Quality" in the GPS information will show "3D Fix" inside the "Web Configuration Page".
Visually inspect the antenna placement. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8850 for proper antenna placement.
If the antenna placement was not correct, correct the antenna placement.
If the antenna placement was correct, proceed to Step 2.
Inspect the Product Link system for damage to hardware and or wiring.
Damage to hardware or wiring found, repair, or replace the damaged component or wiring.
No damage to hardware or wiring found, proceed to Step 3.
Connect to the "Web Configuration" home page.
If the "Web Configuration" home page is not accessible, refer to , UENR5823, Web Configuration Home Page Is Not Accessible.
If the "Web Configuration" home page is accessible, proceed to Step 4.
From the "Web Configuration" home page, navigate to the "Service Dashboard" then the "Radio Information" page. Note the "GPS Antenna Status".
If the "GPS Antenna Status" is "Missing" check for any loose connections.
If loose connections are found, repair the connections and return the system to service.
If no loose connections are found, proceed to Step 7.
If the "GPS Antenna Status" is "Present", proceed to Step 5.
If the "GPS Antenna Status" is "Shorted", proceed to Step 7.
If the "GPS Antenna Status" is "NA", the radio has an internal antenna. Verify that the radio mount has a clear line of site to the sky. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8850 for proper radio placement.
If the radio is not mounted correctly, correct the radio mounting.
