Information:

Start By:a. Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
High pressure cylinder. Do not remove any parts until pressure has been relieved or personal injury may occur.
1. Purge both suspension cylinders of oil and nitrogen. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Suspension Cylinder (Front) - Purge and Charge" for the machine that is being serviced. 2. Remove valve (1) from both suspension cylinders. 3. Remove transmission filter housing (2).4. For the right suspension cylinder removal, disconnect the two hoses an the tee from park brake relief valve manifold (3). 5. Remove two clamps (4) and dust cover (5). 6. Disconnect hose assembly (6) from the suspension cylinder.7. Remove bolt (7) and the washer from the clamp and remove the clamp. 8. Raise the front of the machine and install Tooling (A) on both sides of the machine, as shown.
Typical Example.9. Position a suitable lifting jack under the front axle housing, as shown. Raise the jack to take the weight off the lower suspension cylinder mounts. The weight of the front axle housing and the two tire and rim assemblies is 5840 kg (12 785 lb). 10. Disconnect hose assembly (9). Remove bolt (8), the nut and the four washers from the suspension cylinder. 11. Remove pin (10) from the suspension cylinder.12. Lower the front axle housing and remove the jack. 13. Remove bolt (11), the nut and the four washers from the suspension cylinder. 14. Remove two bolts (12) and the washers. Install Tooling (B) to the suspension cylinder with two7/16- NC x 100mm (4 inch) bolts. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting slings to Tooling (B), as shown.15. Remove the upper pin from suspension cylinder. 16. Lower the suspension cylinder and remove from the machine. The weight of the suspension cylinder is 145 kg (320 lb).
