426, 428, 436, 438 Backhoe LoadersDescription of Change: Improvements have been made to reduce brake chatter from the rear axle during normal service brake applications. The noise or chatter is due to a stick/slip action of the brake plates and discs. A new rear axle lubricant is used which has friction modifiers to eliminate the brake chatter. A Ford® M2C134-C Oil (standard rear axle oil) can be mixed with Ford part number 251403 Friction Modifier and added after replacing the brake actuators and completely flushing the rear axle housing. Mix 0.9 L (1 qt) of friction modifier and 19 L (5 gal.) of M2C134-C Oil for replacing the lubricant in the axles. This mixture is equivalent to the newly specified Ford number M2C86-C Oil which is available only from a Ford dealer.
New brake disc assemblies now used give increased mechanical advantage when applying the service brakes. This improvement requires less operator leg effort than before to achieve the same braking action.
Adaptable To: The new 9R6364 Disc Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 9R2478 Disc Assembly which is canceled. The new brake disc assembly and the new axle oil are in effect with 416 (5PC6679), 426 (7BC2050), 428 (6TC2990), 436 (5KF210), and 438 (3DJ1) and are adaptable to all earlier backhoe loaders.
