Disassemble Torque Converter
start by: a) remove torque converter and pump drive 1. Remove twenty-four bolts (1). 2. Install two 3/8"-16 NC forcing screws as shown. Make a separation of the impeller and the housing. 3. Remove two races (2) and bearing (3) from the turbine assembly. Remove the retainer from the stator. 4. Remove turbine assembly (6) from the housing. Remove bearing (5), two races (7) and retainer (4). 5. Remove sixteen bolts (8). Remove the flange assembly from the housing. Remove the ring from the inside of the housing. 6. Remove bearing (9) from inside flange assembly (10) with tooling (A). 7. Remove bearing race (11) from the flange assembly with tooling (B). 8. Remove retaining ring (14) from carrier assembly (12) with tool (C). 9. Remove the carrier assembly from the stator, hub and impeller with tool (D) and a press.10. Remove bearing (13) from the carrier assembly with tooling (E).11. Remove stator (16) from impeller (15). Remove the bearing, two races and retainer from between the stator and impeller. 12. Remove eight bolts (17). Remove hub (18) from the impeller. 13. Remove the impeller from gear assembly (19).Assemble Torque Converter
1. Heat race (1) to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C). Install race (1) on flange (2) as shown. 2. Install the bearing in flange (2) with tooling (A) and a press. 3. Install flange (2) and ring (3) in housing (4) with bolts (5). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 36 2 lb.ft. (46 3 N m). 4. Install impeller (6) and hub (7) on the gear assembly. Install eight bolts (8) and tighten them to a torque of 36 2 lb.ft. (46 3 N m). 5. Install bearing (9) in carrier assembly (10) with tooling (B) and a press.6. Install impeller (11) on the carrier assembly as shown. 7. Install race (12) in the hub. Install bearing (14) on race (12). Install race (15) and retainer (13) on the bearing. The races must be installed so the side with the chamfer is not against the bearing. 8. Put stator (16) in position on the carrier assembly. Push the stator on the carrier assembly with tool (C) and a press. Make sure the side of the stator with the identification "TURBINE SIDE" is on top when it is pushed on the carrier assembly. 9. Install retaining ring (17) on the carrier assembly to hold the stator in position. 10. Install retainer (20) one race, bearing (19), and race (18) in the stator. 11. Install turbine assembly (21) over the stator. 12. Install race (24), bearing (23) and race (22) on the turbine assembly as shown. 13. Install housing (25) over the turbine assembly as shown. Install bolts (26). Tighten the bolts to a torque of 20 1 lb.ft. (25 1 N m).end by: a) install torque converter and pump drive
