Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Remove".
Remove the water temperature regulator housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install".

Remove locknuts (2) and spacers (1).
Remove the exhaust manifolds as a unit.
Remove exhaust manifolds (4) from exhaust manifold (3).
Remove exhaust manifold gaskets (5).
If necessary, remove the taperlock studs from the cylinder head.Installation Procedure

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Install the taperlock studs in the cylinder head and tighten to a torque of 35 5 N m (26 4 lb ft).

Apply clean engine oil to the female ends of exhaust manifold (3). Apply Tooling (B) to the male ends of exhaust manifolds (4). Assemble exhaust manifolds (4) and (3). Remove excess sealer from the assembled joints.
Install exhaust manifold gaskets (5) on the taperlock studs.
Install Tooling (C) on the taperlock studs at Location "X".
Install the exhaust manifolds on Tooling (C) in order to align the exhaust manifolds. Install spacers (1) on the taperlock studs.Note: Discard the locknuts after use. Use new locknuts for installation.
Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of the taperlock studs. Install locknuts (2) finger tight.
Remove Tooling (C) and install the remaining spacers. Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of the taperlock studs and install the locknuts finger tight.

Tighten locknuts (2) in a numerical sequence that is shown in Illustration 3. Tighten locknuts (2) to a torque of 38 5 N m (28 4 lb ft).End By:
Install the water temperature regulator housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install".
Install the turbocharger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Turbocharger - Install".
