A companion code is activated simultaneously with another code from a control module to indicate the SAE J1939 DATA LINK has an abnormal condition.The FMI 14 will match the FMI 14 that is activated for the diagnostic code of the control module. The FMI 14 diagnostic code means that the machine ECM is communicating with the other control module. However, the machine ECM is not receiving all of the expected information.The CID 0247 FMI 14 diagnostic code will never be activated by the machine ECM as a stand-alone diagnostic code. If the Instrument Cluster did not activate the companion diagnostic code CID 0247 FMI 14 along with the control module code, the technician would not know if the Cat Data Link or J1939 data link is involved.When the CID 0247 FMI 14 diagnostic code is activated by the Instrument Cluster, look for one of the control module codes that are listed.Perform the following procedure when the CID 0247 FMI 14 diagnostic code is activated.
