The above remanufactured long blocks that were processed before March 1994, were shipped without the 4N-6006 Head To Front Housing Fastener Group being installed. This group provides a "U" shaped plate (1) that ties the front cover to the cylinder head to prevent the fan drive from applying a large bending load to the front cover to cylinder block joint. See the illustration.Solution:
All remanufactured 3406 long blocks that were processed before March 1994 should be inspected to ensure this group has been installed. The date code "NUMERALKOD" is stamped near the remanufactured part number on the left rear side of the cylinder block, near the top deck. This code can be used to identify long blocks processed before March 1994 (NEDR). Effective March 1, 1994, the 4N-6006 Head To Front Housing Fastener Group is being factory installed.
