Install the O-ring seal (20) into the bearing housing (12).

Install the ring gear (16) onto the bearing housing (12). Secure the ring gear with the three original bolts and washers (15).

Lower the temperature of bearing cup (17). Install bearing cup (17) into bearing housing (12). Lower the temperature of bearing cup (14). Install bearing cup (14) into bearing housing (12).
Allow bearing cups (14) and (17) to cool to room temperature. Make sure that bearing cups (14) and (17) are fully seated into bearing housing (12).

Raise the temperature of bearing cone (18). Install bearing cone (18) onto axle shaft (11). Allow bearing cone (18) to cool to room temperature. Make sure that bearing cone (18) is fully seated. Lubricate bearing cone (18) with clean oil.

Use Tooling (E) to install duo-cone seal gp (19) to axle shaft (11) and bearing housing (12). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo- Cone Conventional Seals - Install".

Attach Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to bearing housing (12). The weight of bearing housing (12) is approximately 68 kg (150 lb). Use the suitable lifting device to lower bearing housing (12) onto axle shaft (11). Press bearing cone (13) into position and install nut (10). Tighten nut (10) until a slight end play exists in bearing cone (13). Lubricate bearing cone (13) with clean oil.
Measure the torque that is required to rotate bearing housing (12). Record this value. This value is the seal drag torque.
Tighten nut (10) as you rotate the bearing housing (12) to achieve the proper rolling torque. The rolling torque should be between 6 N m (53 lb in) and 9 N m (80 lb in) plus the seal drag torque that was recorded in the previous step.

Position retaining ring (1) into planetary carrier assembly (2). Install bearing (6) into planetary gear (7).
Install planetary gear (7). Install thrust washers (5) and (8) into carrier (4). Install shaft (9).
Use a suitable hammer and a suitable punch to install spring pin (3) into shaft (9). Install larger spring pin (3) so that the opening of larger spring pin (3) is parallel with the top of planetary carrier assembly (2). Install the smaller spring pin (3) so that the opening is 180 degrees from the opening in the larger spring pin (3).

Install Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to planetary carrier assembly (2). The weight of planetary carrier assembly (2) is approximately 68 kg (150 lb). Install planetary carrier assembly (2).

Use Tooling (B) to install retaining ring (1).End By:
Install the final drive and wheel. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive and Wheel - Install".
