All 3412All Caterpillar Remanufactured 3412 Crankshafts are machined with a double plunge grinding operation. This operation grinds the surface of the connecting rod journal from each side of the connecting rod journal radius to the middle of the connecting rod journal. The connecting rod bearings are not adversely affected by the discontinuity. The grinding process can result in a discontinuity in the center of the connecting rod journal. The connecting rod bearings do not make contact with the center of the connecting rod journal when the two connecting rods are installed on the crankshaft journal.The new Caterpillar Remanufactured 3412 Crankshafts are acceptable for use in all 3412, 3412C, and 3412E Engines. Do not remove the discontinuity.
