Installation Procedure
Illustration 1 g00661672
Install axle shaft (11). Make sure that the splines on the axle shaft engage with the rear differential.
Illustration 2 g00661788
Install thrust washer (12) .
Illustration 3 g00661792
Make sure that thrust washer (12) is correctly positioned. Install sun gear (6) .
Illustration 4 g00662174
Note: The clutch pack consists of six outer discs (9), five inner discs (10) and one thrust washer (8). The outer discs and the inner discs must be installed in the proper orientation for correct brake operation. The outer discs and the inner discs are installed in alternating order. Start with an outer disc and end with an outer disc. Align the voids in outer discs (9), as shown. Align the large void on each outer disc, as shown. Align the small void on the first outer disc, the third outer disc and the fifth outer disc to the left of the large void, as shown. Align the small void on the second outer disc, the fourth outer disc and the sixth outer disc to the right of the large void, as shown.

Install six outer discs (9) and five inner discs (10) in the ring gear in alternating order. Start with an outer disc and end with an outer disc. Make sure that the voids are aligned, as shown. Install thrust washer (8) .

Use the appropriate retaining ring pliers to install retaining ring (7) .
Illustration 7 g00661621
Note: Engaging the four planetary gears in planetary carrier (5) with the ring gear may be difficult during the installation of the planetary carrier.
Fasten a lifting sling to planetary carrier (5), as shown. Fasten an appropriate lifting device to the lifting sling. Place the planetary carrier in the planetary carrier's original location on the wheel studs in the hub. Use slots (M) as a reference in order to align the parts. Temporarily install four lug nuts. Install the lug nuts in 90 degree intervals. The planetary gears in the planetary carrier will not be engaged with the ring gear at this time. Slowly rotate the hub on the opposite side of the axle. Tighten each lug nut slightly. Continue to tighten each lug nut slightly. The force of the lug nuts against the planetary carrier and the slow rotation of the hub will cause the planetary gears in the planetary carrier to engage with the ring gear. After the planetary carrier is correctly installed, remove the four lug nuts.
