Reference: Tool Announcement, NEHG3405, "Vibration Measurement System For Caterpillar Products." Operating Manual Form NEHS0525, Video Tape Form NEVG0525 and Software Loading Instructions Form NEHS0527.Three tool groups are now available to provide a vibration measurement system for use with Caterpillar products. The three groups are the 4C3030 Vibration Analyzer Group, 4C3020 Field Balance Group and 4C3041 Modem.
The 4C3030 Vibration Analyzer Group is the prime tool and it is used to record all vibration amplitudes and frequencies. The 4C3020 Field Balance Group adds the required capabilities to balance engines and driven equipment. A 4C3041 Modem enables the analyzer to communicate with host computers containing the appropriate software. This communication link can be used to add measurement routes to the analyzer or to send recorded data to factory personnel for analysis.
4C3030 Vibration Analyzer Group
The 4C3030 Vibration Analyzer Group provides quick and complete identification of all vibration frequencies present in a constant speed measurement. With this capability, dealer personnel can troubleshoot a customer vibration complaint or document the vibration character of equipment for various purposes.
The components of the 4C3030 Vibration Analyzer Group are easy to use and field mechanics can learn to take data confidently with limited training. With the data in the analyzer memory, the spectra can be printed using any parallel port personal computer printer. A computer is not required for this printing. Since the analyzer is programmable, future enhancements, such as the capability to measure torsional vibration, are possible.
The vibration analyzer represents advanced technology and provides capabilities not available in the IRD 320 which is a single frequency, manually tunable analyzer with no memory.
4C3020 Field Balance Group
This group is for use with the 4C3030 Vibration Analyzer Group. The software is loaded into the memory of the vibration analyzer via an IBM compatible PC. This software completes all the complicated calculations required in a balancing process. The input of a once per revolution pulse to the analyzer speed port (required in a balance operation) is provided by the photohead.
The analyzer can simultaneously balance up to four planes on site. A diesel engine, which represents two planes, can be balanced in two to three hours complete. The program reduces the balance solution to the weight that a mechanic can add at existing bolt locations.
4C3041 Modem
This modem is dedicated for use with the 4C3031 Vibration Analyzer. The modem enables the analyzer to send the digital vibration data, gathered and stored in its memory, over the phone lines to a computer equipped with the Catcom Software. Selected computers at Caterpillar have this software and can receive the data from a dealer for consultation.
With the 4C3041 Modem, vibration data can be transmitted over the phone lines immediately and consultation can occur while personnel are still at the site. If the memory is accidentally cleared, a replacement route can be down-loaded to the analyzer over phone line while personnel are at the remote location.
