(1) Nitrogen charging valve (2) Accumulator (3) Chamber for the nitrogen gas (4) Piston (5) Pressure oil chamber (6) Outlet to the brake valveThere are two accumulators in the brake circuit. Each accumulator (2) has a sealed piston (4). Piston (4) moves in an upward direction or in a downward direction inside the bore of the accumulator.Chamber (3) has a charge of dry nitrogen gas. The gas is put into the accumulator through the nitrogen charging valve (1) .When the pressure in the braking system is higher than the pressure in the accumulator, the oil from the steering and braking pump flows through port (6) and into chamber (5). Oil pressure in chamber (5) pushes piston (4) which will compress the dry nitrogen gas. When the accumulators are fully charged, the accumulator manifold diverts oil to the brake and the inching valve and the check valve blocks the oil in the accumulators.When the brake pedal is pushed the pressure in the brake system is lower than the pressure in the accumulators and the oil in the accumulators flows into the brake system in order to engage the brakes.The alert indicator for the brake pressure will illuminate when the accumulator pressure falls below 5200 kPa (750 psi). The alert indicator will remain illuminated until the accumulator pressure rises above 5200 kPa (750 psi).
