3408 And 3412 Industrial, Marine, And Generator Set EnginesDescription of Change: A new seal group is used in water pump groups. The new seal group includes a stronger spring that provides increased contact pressure between the sealing components. This will help prevent coolant leaks.Adaptable To: Before installing the new 1010700 Seal Group in a 3408 engine, check the following: * If the 3408 engine water pump group includes the former 4N1751 Impeller, the counterbore for seal group in the impeller must be machined to a larger diameter. See Illustration 1. The 4N1751 Impeller has been canceled and replaced by the new 7C1067 Impeller. If the water pump group includes the new 7C1067 Impeller, no machining is required.* If the 3408 engine water pump group includes the former 4N1956 Housing Assembly, check the depth to the seal counter bore in the housing. See Illustration 2. The depth must be 35.79 0.13 mm (1.409 .005 in). If the depth is not correct, the housing must be machined to provide sufficient clearance for the correct compression of the seal group. The former 4N1956 Housing Assembly has been canceled and replaced by the new 6I0862 Housing Assembly. If the water pump group includes the new 6I0862 Housing Assembly, no machining is required. The 4N5836 Impeller has been canceled and replaced by the new 7C1068 Impeller. If the water pump group includes the new 7C1068 Impeller, no machining is required.* If the 3412 engine water pump group includes the former 4N1956 Housing Assembly, check the depth to the seal counter bore in the housing.
