Information:

To keep the engine in optimum condition, keeping the fuel free from contamination is important. As fuel system contamination usually occurs during refueling, the following points should be observed:
Only use clean fuel of the correct grade from a reliable source.
Do not refuel from contaminated containers or containers that are not suitable for fuel storage.
Do not use contaminated equipment.
Regularly clean the outside of the fuel filler cap and the area around the fuel filler cap.
Only use Caterpillar approved fuel filters. The use of Caterpillar filters is essential to protect the fuel system.
Do not service the fuel filters ahead of the suggested maintenance interval, unless you are instructed by the monitoring system. This action will increase the risk of contamination in the fuel system.Note: The service indicator for the fuel system will be illuminated if the water collection bowl at the bottom of fuel system primary filter needs to be emptied. If the indicator is illuminated, empty the water in the water collection bowl.Note: To reduce the risk of contamination in the system, do not remove the primary fuel filter and the secondary fuel filters simultaneously. Perform these operations separately.Note: After the engine has stopped, wait for 60 seconds to allow the fuel pressure to be purged from the high-pressure fuel lines before any service or repair is performed on the engine fuel lines.Replace the Primary Fuel Filter
Close the fuel supply shutoff valve. Turn the red handle of the fuel shutoff valve clockwise to shut off the fuel supply. The fuel supply shutoff valve is on the bottom of the fuel tank at the center of the fuel tank.

Clean the outside of the primary fuel filter (water separator) assembly.
Place a suitable container under the open end of drain hose (3). Open drain valve (4) and allow the fluid to drain into the container.
Tighten the drain valve by hand pressure only.
Disconnect the water level sensor wiring harness (2) from the machine wiring harness.
Use a Cat strap type wrench to remove the filter element. Properly dispose of the old filter element.
Clean the filter element mounting base. Make certain that none of the old seal material remains on the base.
Clean the water collection bowl. Remove and properly dispose of the O-ring seal on the water collection bowl.
Lubricate the gasket at the top of a new filter element with clean diesel fuel. Install the new filter element by hand.Instructions for the installation of the filter element are printed on the side of each Cat spin-on filter. For non-Cat filters, refer to the installation instructions that are provided by the supplier of the filter.
A new O-ring seal for the water collection bowl is supplied with the new filter element. Install the O-ring seal on the water collection bowl. Lubricate the seal with clean diesel
