Information:

Direction shifts - forward to reverse, or reverse to forward must only be made when the machine is stationary otherwise the transmission may be damaged.
The machine always moves off in first gear in torque converter drive, regardless of the position of the gear shift lever. Torque converter lock up will engage to form a solid drive when the engine speed and the converter output shaft speed equalize. When ground speed and engine speed reach pre-set levels the transmission will upshift to second gear. Further upshifts will be made at pre-set ground and engine speeds until the selected gear is engaged. Torque converter lock up will disengage as each shift is made and re-engage when the engine speed and torque converter output speeds equalize. When ground and engine speeds are reduced by site conditions such as grades, soft ground, or deceleration due to braking or releasing the accelerator, the transmission will downshift one gear at a time until first gear is selected, or until a gear is selected which suits the conditions. It is not possible to make an immediate shift to a higher or lower gear by moving the gear shift lever. The lever can be moved but the transmission will not shift up or down until the pre-set ground and engine speeds are attained. When driving down a grade select a gear which takes advantage of the braking effect of the engine. The correct gear must be engaged before starting down a grade. Use the engine brake and the retarder to control the machine speed.Do not allow the engine to overspeed on downgrades. The transmission will upshift, regardless of the position of the gear shift control if the engine speed is allowed to rise to the point where the tachomometer needle is in the red zone of the gauge.Use the retarder, engine brake and service brakes to slow the machine if the tachometer needle approaches the red zone of the gauge.
Type 1
Type 2When parking the machine always move the gearshift lever to the neutral position and engage the neutral lock.On machines with type 1 arrangement, the neutral lock is a control located on the right side of the shift lever. Turn the control to engage the neutral lock.On machines with type 2 arrangement, the neutral lock is a collar on the shift lever. The neutral lock engages when the shift lever is moved to neutral.
The body hoist control must be in FLOAT before the transmission will shift from first gear. If the body hoist control is not in FLOAT, only first gear can be engaged.
Braking
The machine has disc brakes on all wheels. These brakes can be activated by two different controls. The service brake pedal (1) applies all wheel brakes. Deceleration depends on how hard the pedal is pressed. Use the service brake pedal for normal slowing and stopping of the machine.Repeated brake applications on a downgrade can cause wear and overheating of the brakes. Select the correct gear before starting down a grade and use the retarder and engine
