Damage from Derailing
Illustration 18 g00887671
Tear to rubber casing
Damage can occur when the track derails toward the frame. Sections of the track can be torn when the track contacts the front edge of the lower frame.
Track replacement is not required. Simply cut off the piece of rubber that is loose.Track damage that results from derailing is not covered by the warranty. Further, the costs that are associated with reinstallation of the track are not covered by the warranty.Track Derailment
Operating Techniques
Proper operating techniques will prevent the tracks from coming off during machine operation on slopes and transitions.

3:1 Slope
If you must travel on a transition, travel the machine at 90° to the transition.
Do not turn on the transition.
Do not travel along a transition. See Illustration 19.
Never exceed a slope that is greater than 3 to 1 (18.6°). See Illustration 20.
When it is possible, avoid operating the machine across a slope.
Do not turn the machine while you are operating on a slope. For additional information, refer to “Operating Techniques” in your Operation and Maintenance Manual. Prevention
The occurrence and the severity of the derailment of the track can be minimized by using the following processes.
Maintain the proper track tension.
Install guard plates in order to protect the edge of track against damage. The 208-4556 Plate (Right Side) and the 208-4557 Plate (Left Slide) can be installed in order to cover the front edges of the lower frame. These plates can reduce damage to the track if the track derails toward the frame. See Illustration 21. Refer to Service Magazine, SEPD0628, 06, May 2002, "New Edge Guard Plates Can Reduce Damage to Tracks" for the instructions for installing guard plates in order to protect the edge of track.
Install track guides. Track guides are installed on the four corners of the lower frame. The track guides are intended to minimize the risk of derailing during transition on different levels of terrain. The track guides are also intended to minimize the risk of derailing during operation on slopes that are within the operational limits of the machine. Although track guides minimize the possibility of derailing, continuous derailing of the tracks against the track guides will reduce the life of the tracks, the wheels, and the track guides. See Illustration 22. For information of the installation of track guides, refer to Special Instruction, REHS1199, "Field Installation of the 215-4007 Track Guide Guard Gp".Note: Any wear or any damage to the tracks, to the wheels, or to any component of the undercarriage that is caused by derailment is NOT warrantable. The track guides are considered as wear items. Damage to tracks as a result of worn track guides is NOT warrantable.
