VALVE, BY-PASS 0941052 - Caterpillar

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Put the rear axle housing on suitable support stands or blocks to prevent the axle housing from moving.2. Remove two bolts, cover (1) and the shims from the differential housing. 3. Install a 3/8inch - 16 NC Forged Eyebolt in thrust pin (2). Remove the thrust pin from the differential housing. Remove the O-ring seal from the thrust pin.
Typical Example4. Remove all the bolts (except two opposite each other) that hold the differential to the differential housing. Install two 20 mm - 2.5 Forcing Screws (3) in the differential. Loosen the two remaining bolts approximately 13 mm (1/2inch). Tighten the forcing screws evenly to loosen the differential in the housing.5. Fasten a shackle to the differential, as shown. Attach a hoist and suitable lifting chains to the shackle. Remove the two remaining bolts. Remove the differential from the housing. The weight of the rear differential and bevel gear is 505 kg (1113 lb).6. Remove the O-ring seal from the differential.
