Schematic of Control Valve (Swing) (1) Control valve (swing) (2) Main spool (3) Pressure reducing valve (4) Check valve (5) Metering area (6) Intermediate plate (7) Orifice (8) Shuttle valve (10) Pressure relief valve (A) Work port (B) Work port (P) Pump port (T) Tank port (X) Pilot port (Y) Pilot port (LS) Load signal portWhen the operator moves the left control lever to activate the swing function, pilot oil at port (X) or (Y) shifts main spool (2). Also, pilot oil flows through shuttle valve (8) to pressure reducing valve (3) and pressure relief valve (10) .Reference: The main spool of the control valve (swing) is identical to the main spool of control valve (boom). For more information about main spool (2), refer to System Operation, "End Section (One Function)" and System Operation, "End Section (Two Functions)".As main spool (2) shifts, metering area (5) is formed. The size of the opening is determined by the demand for oil flow. Metering area (5) creates a load signal. The load signal flows into intermediate plate (6) to pressure reducing valve (3), check valve (4), and orifice (7). Pressure reducing valve (3) limits the load signal pressure to a maximum of 25000 kPa (3600 psi). The load signal flows to the implement pump in order to upstroke the implement pump. The load signal is reduced for the swing system in order to allow the machine to start swinging smoothly. When the control lever is released, pilot oil stops flowing to valve section (1). This allows main spool (2) to move to the NEUTRAL position. While main spool (2) is moving to the NEUTRAL position, the size of metering area (5) decreases. This reduces the load signal which causes the implement pump to destroke. The return oil that flows back to the hydraulic tank is restricted by an orifice in main spool (2). This allows the machine to smoothly stop swinging. When the machine starts to swing, high load signal pressures are generated. The valve section of the main control valve that has the highest load signal controls the output of the implement pump.Intermediate plate (6) is installed in the control valve (swing) in order to reduce the load signal pressure. This prevents the load signal of the swing system from taking priority over a load signal of another system. Also, intermediate plate (6) limits the high pressure when the machine starts to swing and intermediate plate (6) prevents the activation of other control valves.Intermediate plate (6) is equipped with the following components: pressure reducing valve (3), check valve (4), shuttle valve (8) and pressure relief valve (10).
