Lower the temperature of bearing cup (38). Do not install the O-ring seal at this time. Install bearing cup (38) into bearing cage assembly (36).

Install bearing cage assembly (36) in the transfer case. DO NOT install the O-ring seal or the shims at this time.
Install bolts (34) at a 180° interval in bearing cage (36). Tighten bolts (34) to a torque of 14 N m (10 lb ft).
Rotate the transfer shaft three times.
Tighten bolts (34) in bearing cage assembly (36) to a torque of 14 N m (10 lb ft).
Repeat Steps 52 and 53 until 14 N m (10 lb ft) torque will not advance bolts (34).
Loosen bolts (34) evenly and reset the bolts finger tight.
Use Tooling (F) to measure the gaps between the housing and the bearing cage. Measure the gap in four places.
Add the four measurements for the bearing cage. Divide the sum by four. This is the average gap for each bearing cage. Add 0.08 mm (0.003 inch) to 0.15 mm (0.006 inch) to the average gap measurement to determine the thickness of the shims.
Remove bolts (34) and bearing cage assembly (36) from the transfer gear case assembly.
Install the O-ring, bearing cage assembly (36), the correct shim pack, and bolts (34). Tighten bolts (34) to a torque of 105 20 N m (77 15 lb ft).

Lower the temperature of bearing cup (33). Use appropriate equipment to handle the bearing cup.
Install the bearing cup into input bearing cage (31).

Install input bearing cage (31) in the transfer case. DO NOT install the O-ring seal or the shims at this time.
Install bolts (30) at a 180° interval in input bearing cage (31). Tighten bolts (30) to a torque of 28 N m (21 lb ft).
Rotate the transfer shaft three times.
Tighten bolts (30) in input bearing cage (31) to a torque of 28 N m (21 lb ft).
Repeat Steps 64 and 65 until 28 N m (21 lb ft) torque will not advance bolts (30).
Loosen bolts (30) evenly and reset the bolts finger tight.
Use Tooling (D) to measure the gaps between the housing and the input bearing cage. Measure the gap in four places.
Add the four measurements for the bearing cage. Divide the sum by four. This is the average gap for each bearing cage. Add 0.08 mm (0.003 inch) to 0.15 mm (0.006 inch) to the average gap measurement to determine the thickness of the shims.
Remove bolts (30) and input bearing cage (31) from the transfer gear case assembly.
Install input bearing cage (31), the correct shim pack, locks (29), and bolts (30).
Tighten bolts (30) to a torque of 47 9 N m (35 7 lb ft).
Fold the end of locks (29) onto bolts (30).

Install ring (8) in bearing cage (6).

Use Tooling (C) to install lip
