Lower the temperature of bearing cup (21). Install bearing cup (21) into planetary axle assembly (9) .

Lower the temperature of bearing cup (22). Install bearing cup (22) into planetary axle assembly (9) .

Attach Tooling (H) and a suitable lifting device to planetary axle assembly (9). The weight of planetary axle assembly (9) is approximately 57 kg (125 lb). Lower planetary axle assembly (9) onto axle shaft (17) in order to seat axle seal (20) into planetary axle assembly (9) .

Raise the temperature of bearing cone (18). Install bearing cone (18) onto axle shaft (17) .

Install ring gear (15) into planetary axle assembly (9). Install pins (16). Install shims (14) and planetary carrier assembly (13). Tighten bolt (12) to a torque of 137 N m (101 lb ft).

Measure the step height of Position (Y) between axle shaft (17) and planetary carrier assembly (13). Adjust shims (14) in order to establish a step height of 0.080 mm (0.0031 inch) to 2.000 mm (0.0787 inch).
Attach Tooling (K) to planetary assembly. Increase the force on the spring scale in order to measure rotational resistance of the bearings. The rotational resistance should measure 3 kg (6.6 lb) to 6 kg (13 lb).

Apply Tooling (G) to bolt (12) upon the completion of Steps 26 and 27. Tighten bolt (12) to a torque of 137 N m (101 lb ft). Apply Tooling (J) to the planetary axle assembly.

Attach a suitable lifting device to planetary axle assembly (9). The weight of planetary axle assembly (9) is approximately 57 kg (125 lb).

Install planetary axle assembly (9) onto differential housing (3). Apply Tooling (G) to bolts (10). Tighten bolts (10) to a torque of 101 N m (75 lb ft).
Repeat Steps 19 through 30 for the opposite side.

Install pinion assembly (7) and shims (8) onto differential housing (3). Apply Tooling (G) to bolts (6). Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 101 N m (75 lb ft). Install lip seal (53). Install flange (5) and the O-ring seal. Install nut (4) and the washer. Tighten nut (4) to a torque of 245 N m (180 lb ft).

Use Tooling (F) in order to measure the backlash between pinion shaft (51) and ring gear (41). The backlash is from 0.090 mm (0.0035 inch) to 0.130 mm (0.0051 inch). Adjust the backlash by adding or removing shims (8) .

Install cover (2) and the gasket onto differential housing (3). Apply Tooling (G) to bolts (1). Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 28.4 N m (21 lb ft).
Fill the differential with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" for the proper type and the proper quantity.End By: Install the oscillating axle, axle planetary and differential (limited slip).
