Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Do not try to repair track without the proper tooling. Damage to the track or tooling could result. Each size and type of track requires specific track tooling. Refer to Undercarriage Reconditioning Guides for the proper tooling to be used.Do not strike the tooling or any components with a hammer or other similar hand tool while the tooling is pressurized. Failure to follow this recommendation could result in tool failure causing ejected parts, which will result in personal injury or death. Never operate the unit if the guards are cracked or damaged. Immediately replace damaged parts with a new Caterpillar parts.
Start By:
Remove Track.
Remove the track shoes on links to be disassembled.

Position the track through Tooling (A) as shown in illustration 2.
Using Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) to remove pin (1).

Remove catch basket (2) from Tooling (A) with pin (1).

Install Tooling (C) while Tooling (B) is being removed to hold track together.

Repeat steps 2 to 5 for pin (3).
Remove the link assemblies.

Remove link assemblies (4) and (5).

Remove spacer (6) and seal (7).
Repeat for the opposite side.

Position link assembly (5) in a suitable press.
Use the suitable press to remove bushing (9) from link (8).

Reposition link assembly (5) in the suitable press.
Use the suitable press to remove bushing (9) from link (10).
If necessary repeat steps 2 through 13 to disassemble the remaining link assemblies as appropriate.
