ACTION REQUIRED
Retightening should occur before 5000 component/engine hours but it is not recommended any sooner than 250 hours.
This retightening is intended only to return the joint to original assembly load and to help prevent combustion gas leaks. Retightening is NOT to be used as a repair to a cylinder that is known to be leaking combustion gas.
Experience has shown that the 110-6991 head gasket is fully relaxed by 250 engine hours. As a result it is recommended that the retighten occur as close to 250 hours as possible. On new or rebuilt engines installed in the affected product, it is recommended that the retighten be done at the same time as the 250 hour valve lash adjustment.
A greater benefit will be gained by retightening at lower engine hours, however an improvement to the life of the 110-6991 gasket will be seen if the retightening occurs up to 5000 engine hours.

Rework Procedure
Refer to the appropriate service manual as necessary.
1. Set the torque wrench to the head bolt specification of 425 lb ft (576 N-m) and tighten the head bolts in the correct torque order shown in Image1.1.1. Repeat the torque sequence until there is no bolt movement at the 425 lb ft (576 N-m) torque specification.
Accuracy of the torque wrench must be verified prior to each repair. Example: Utilize 1P-7460 Torque Tester.
2. Tighten bolts 9 and 10 to a torque of 45 lb ft (61 N-m).
