(1) Torque converter inlet relief valve (1A) Relief valve spool (2) Passage to torque converter (3) Passage to bevel gear case (4) Adjustment screwTorque converter inlet relief valve (1) is located in the priority valve.Torque converter inlet relief valve (1) limits the maximum oil pressure to the torque converter. The purpose of inlet relief valve (1) is preventing damage to the torque converter when the engine is started and the oil is cold.Inlet relief valve (1) limits the maximum oil pressure to 930 35 kPa (135 5 psi). When the pressure in passage (2) exceeds 930 35 kPa (135 5 psi), the spool assembly (1A) shifts to the right. This shift allows the oil to drain into the bevel gear case through passage (3) .When the pressure drops below 930 35 kPa (135 5 psi), spool assembly (1A) shifts back to the left. This shift blocks the flow of oil to the drain.The setting of the torque converter inlet relief valve is adjustable by turning screw (4). The screw can be locked in place with a locknut.
