Steering Pump (1) Steering pumpThe steering pump is a fixed displacement gear pump. The steering pump is driven by the propel pump. The steering pump turns clockwise while the engine is running. The steering pump supplies oil to the steering system and the fan motor on the radiator. The oil is drawn into the steering pump by the gears. The oil will circulate around the gears. The oil is then sent through the outlet port to the fan motor.No Turn
The steering pump draws oil out of the hydraulic tank through the strainer. The oil is then sent to the fan motor on the radiator. The oil flows from the fan motor to the metering pump. The valve for the metering pump remains in the center position. The valve directs the oil flow to the hydraulic oil cooler and back to the hydraulic oil tank.Turning
During a turn, an internal valve shifts as the steering wheel is turned. The oil that comes from the outlet on the fan motor flows to the metering pump. The valve in the metering pump will shift in order to allow the oil to flow through the gerotor and to the appropriate end of the steering cylinder. The metering pump controls the direction and the speed of the turn.
