Assembly Of Output Group Of Parts
1. Assemble the output shaft (see Illustration C36979P1 Page No. 38) as follows: a) Clean the tapered bore of the gear and its mating surface on the output shaft with an oil free solvent. Dry with clean paper towels.
Do not lower the shaft temperature or heat the gear. Both must be at room temperature during assembly.
Measuring Output Gear Dimension.b) Measure and record the distance from the groove of the shaft to the shoulder on the shaft at the small end of the taper (measurement A).c) Place the output gear on the shaft. Make sure the output gear is seated using no more that 445 to 890 N (100 to 200 lbs of force).
Measuring Gear Height.d) Measure and record the distance from the rear of the shaft to the rear face of the gear (measurement B).e) Subtract distance B measured in step 'd' from distance A measure in step 'b'. The result is the installation height of the gear. This dimension must be between 2.29 to 3.05 mm (.090 to .120 in).f) Remove gear from shaft and proceed as follows:2. Install the rear half housing on the output shaft seating it on two suitable blocks so that housing is parallel to the bench.
Rear Inner Bearing Race Installation. Output seal and bearing outer race must be installed into rear housing before installing over the output shaft.3. Place the rear bearing inner race on the shaft and install race with Twin Disc special tool TD 300409-5 and hydraulic press TD 300409.4. Place the output gear on the shaft. Make sure the output gear is seated using no more that 445 to 890 N (100 to 200 lbs of force).
Installation Of Output Gear.5. Use a 40 to 55 ton press and Twin Disc tooling TD 300409 and TD 300409-4 output gear. Install gear to within 0.00 to 0.05 mm (.000 to .002 in) from external snap ring groove bottom face so that the snap ring can be installed to fasten the gear on the output shaft. 6. Install the front bearing inner race on the end of output shaft with Twin Disc tools TD 300419 and TD 300420. It must be seated with 6 tons force for correct location.7. Install plate (52) (see Illustration C36977P1 on Page No. 35). Tighten bolts to a torque of 26 N m (21 lb ft).
