Installation And Removal Of The ARM Tip And Coupler
1. Put the tip or coupler into position. Ensure that the retainer assembly and pin are centered.
If the retainer assembly and pin are not centered and are partially driven in, the retainer assembly may be damaged and may need to be replaced. If the retainer assembly and pin are not centered and are completely driven in, the retainer assembly and pin will be damaged and must be replaced.
2. Use a 2.3 kg (5 lb) hammer to drive in the pin.
Excessive force is unnecessary and may damage the pin or retainer assembly. If the pin is driven through the retainer assembly, the pin and retainer assembly must be replaced.
3. After installing the pin, ensure that it is properly seated in the retainer assembly. Tap the pin lightly until full resistance is encountered. Tap the pin on the top and bottom. If the pin moves, it is not fully seated and must be tapped in further until it is fully seated. Recheck the pin for proper seating.4. When the pin is properly installed, it should be nearly flush with the top of the tip or the coupler.5. To remove the pin, strike the pin about five times with a 5 to 9 kg (11.0 to 20.0 lb) hammer and 1U-7184 Pin Removal Tool. Striking the pin shears the snap ring or the retainer assembly. After the snap ring or the retainer assembly is sheared, the pin will come out.
