Information:
Thickness Control Screws
The thickness control screws are used to introduce the angle of attack into the screed. There is one thickness control screw located on each end of the screed. The adjustment of the thickness control screws and the start up procedure are discussed in the "Setup Section" of this manual.Extender Controls
Height Adjuster
The height adjuster moves the screed extender up or down to keep the screed plate level with the main screed trailing edge when the attack angle is adjusted. There is a power option available. See your Caterpillar dealer.Sloper Control
1. The extenders adjust down from 0 to 8°.2. Turn the sloper crank clockwise, (as you view it), to put in the slope. The extender then pivots down.3. The extenders can be adjusted while paving. This does not change the main screed width.A power option is available for sloping the extenders. See you Caterpillar dealer.Extender Width Switch
The extender width switch moves the extender in and out as desired to achieve the overall desired paving width. The right extender is controlled by the extender width switch in the right screed control box. The left extender is controlled by the extender width switch in the left screed control box. Additional switches may be located on the tractor. See the tractor Operation Manual.Crown Control
No leading edge crown is required for the Extend-A-Mat screed. The crown control adjusts the screed to produce the desired contour of the finished pavement. Turn the control handle clockwise to increase crown to the desired setting. Make sure the crown control lock is engaged so the setting does not change while paving.A power option is also available for the crown control. See your Caterpillar dealer.Feeder Gain
The function of this system is to maintain a constant head of material in the feeder screw chamber by changing the speed of the feeder and the screw in proportion to the direction of the position of the sensor paddle. The feeder control system consists of the following:* Feeder Control Pots - The feeder control pots, with sensor paddles, are located on mounting shafts near the left and right hand outboard feeder screws.* Actuators - The actuators are located on each right and left hand feeder hydrostatic pump.* Auto-Manual Switch - The AUTO/MANUAL switches are located on the left and right operators station and the right and left Endgate boxes. The feeder control pot varies the voltage to the actuator valve that moves the swash plate of the feeder pump to speed up or slow down the feeder and screw as required. The feeder and screw are driven at maximum speed when the feeder control paddle arm is in the vertical position. As the asphalt in the screw chamber raises the paddle arm up to 45°, the voltage to the EDC decreases, moving the actuator toward neutral, until zero voltage is reached and the feeder screw stops. During operation, the paddle will be lifted to the position where material height will be maintained.Extended Feeder Control Mount
