4. Drive the pin through the tip adapter and retainer from the other side of the retainer.
After driving the pin, check to be sure that the retainer is snugly fitted into the groove of the pin.
Side Cutters
1. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the side cutters. 2. Some side cutters may be rotated for additional wear. Clean the mounting surfaces. Install the new or rotated cutters.Bucket Clearance (If Equipped with a Bucket Capable of Shim Adjustment)
Inspect / Adjust
When performing this adjustment, put the hydraulic activation control lever in the locked position and stop the engine.
Improperly adjusted bucket clearance could cause galling on the contact surfaces of the bucket and stick, resulting in excessive noise and/or damaged O-ring seal.
Place the machine on a level ground and hold the bucket approximately 20 to 30 mm (0.8" to 1.2") above the ground with the stick vertical to the ground.Put the hydraulic activation control lever to the locked position and stop the engine.Bucket Clearance-type A
Adjust the bucket to stick clearance to the values specified in the list below. To obtain correct setting, select proper shim(s). Two kinds of shims of 0.5 mm (0.02" ) and 1mm (0.04" ) thickness are available from your Caterpillar dealer. 1. Loosen four bolts (1) and washers (2) and remove support plate (3).2. Put approximate amount of shims with 1mm (0.04" ) thickness in position (a), install support plate (3) and tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 60 N m (43 lb ft) until the total clearances (b) become 0.3. Remove bolts (1), support plate (3) and shims installed in above step. Measure the distance, A, between end surfaces of the bucket boss and bushing, with a depth meter. The measurement should be taken for the existing total clearances of (b).4. Determine the required shim thickness by calculating as follows.Required shim thickness ; Use the value obtained to select appropriate shim (s).5. Install the selected shim(s) and support plate (3).Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 103 N m (74 lb ft).Bucket Clearance-type B
Adjust the bucket to stick clearance to the values specified in the list below. To obtain correct setting, select proper shim(s). 1. Loosen four bolts (1) and washers (2) and remove support plate (3).2. Remove the existing shim (s) from location (a) and reinstall plate (3) with bolts (1). Then tighten the bolts to a torque of 98 N m (70 lbf ft) until the total clearances (b) become 0.3. Remove bolts (1) and plate (3). Measure the distance, A between end surfaces of the bucket boss and bushing with a depth meter. The measurement should be taken for the existing total clearances of (b).4. Determine the required shim thickness by calculating as follows.Required shim thickness ; Use the value obtained to select appropriate shim(s).5. Install the selected shim(s) and support plate (3).Tighten bolts (1) to a torque of 103 N m (74 lb ft).Tracks
