Procedure To Adapt This Change To An Earlier Machine By Salvaging The Existing Panhard Rod Mounting Brackets
1. Purchase or fabricate two 7U9622 Adapter Plates. If the plates must be fabricated, use steel plate with a minimum tensile strength of 490 MPa (70,600 psi), and a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa (51,500psi). Use the dimensions shown in Illustration 1.Note D: If new mounting brackets are to be installed, it is not necessary to machine the key way shown. However, if the existing 6U6211 and 6U6212 Panhard Rod Brackets are to be salvaged, both the key way and the dowel counter bores must be machined. The dowel counter bores have no immediate function if new brackets are not installed. However, they should be provided to allow for future service replacement of the former 6U6211 and 6U6212 Brackets with the new 7U9459 and 7U9458 Panhard Rod Brackets, respectively.

Illustration 3. Dimensions required to machine a key way in a former 6U6212 Panhard Rod Bracket.3. If the existing panhard rod mounting brackets are salvaged, inspect for damage. Repair as necessary prior to machining the key way in each bracket. See Illustrations 3 and 4.

This will provide maximum clearance to install the parts.5. To remove existing mounting bracket (1), remove panhard retainers (5) pins (2), and panhard rod (6). See Illustration 5.Note E: Illustration 5 shows the center axle configuration. The rear axle is similar.

Assemble the bracket and 7U9622 Adapter Plate (8) to axle housing (10). See Illustrations 6 and 7, or 8 and 9, depending on whether or not new brackets are to be installed. Be sure that adapter plate (8) is positioned to provide adequate clearance in the holes for future hardware removal. Tighten the hardware to a torque of 750 N m (550 lb ft).
