Start By:a. remove drive shaft For photographic purposes, the engine and transmission are displayed removed from the machine. The parking brake can be disassembled and assembled with the engine and transmission in the machine.1. Remove four bolts and two collars from yoke of rear axle and disconnect rear universal from rear axle yoke.
View Of Parking Brake Cable And Arm (1) Shown In Machine 2. Remove the pins and disconnect parking brake cable from parking brake arm (1). 3. Remove eight bolts (2) and remove parking drum (3). Turn drum (3) over and examine. If it has been scored or has any ridges or uneven surfaces, it will be necessary to have the drum turned. The parking brake will not secure the vehicle properly unless the drum has a smooth and round surface. 4. Remove pinion bolt (4). 5. Remove washer (5), O-ring seal (7) and yoke (8) from the pinion shaft. Take special care not to lose any of pinion shims (6). These shims control the rolling torque of the pinion. 6. Remove four bolts (9) this will release entire parking brake assembly (10). 7. Remove parking brake assembly (10) as a unit from the transmission housing. Parking brake arm (1) may slip out or stay with the transmission housing. Remove it with parking brake assembly (10). 8. Turn parking brake over and mark each of the three springs for proper replacement. 9. Remove parking brake arm (1). Note how the forks of the arm fit between the two brake shoes.
Always wear safety glasses prior to removal of any brake parts or springs.
10. Using Tooling (A), remove brake springs (11) and (12). 11. Remove brake shoes (14) and (15) and then remove spring (13) from the shoes. 12. Inspect all portions of the parking brake and replace any worn or broken parts. Assemble the parking brake in the following manner. 13. Install spring (13) between two brake shoes (14) and (15). 14. Put a small amount of lubricant on plate (16) where brake shoes (14) and (15) contact the plate. Install the two brake shoes and using Tooling (A), install springs (11) and (12) as shown. 15. Put a small amount of lubricant on plate (16) in the area where the fork arm (1) will contact the plate.16. Install arm (1) as shown. 17. Holding arm (1) in place, turn the entire parking brake assembly (10) over. 18. Put a small amount of lubricant in the sprocket hole located in the axle housing which holds parking brake arm (1).19. Install parking brake assembly (10) on the axle housing as shown. Insure that the parking brake arm ball is secured in the socket on the transmission housing. Install four bolts (9) securing the parking brake assembly into the transmission housing.20. Move the parking brake arm several times to insure that the parking brake assembly operates properly and is not bound. 21. Install yoke (8) onto the splines of the pinion. 22. Install O-ring (7) into yoke (8). 23.
