Start By:a. Separation of track
Before doing any service work which requires separating a track, a thorough inspection of the front track roller frame must be made. See Special Instruction, Form No. SMHS8273-02.
1. Put 50 ton screw jacks (1) in position under the front of the machine. Lift the front track roller frame approximately 25.4 mm (1 in.). Tooling (A) is installed after the front roller track frame has been lifted approximately 25.4 mm (1 in.) so the pressure in the bogie pads is released.2. Install tooling (A) on the front bogie as shown.3. Lift the machine so the front track rollers are off of the track. 4. Remove plug (2) and drain the oil from the rear track roller frame.5. Remove bolts (3) and cover (4) from each side of the rear track roller frame. Remove the O-ring seal from each of the covers. 6. Use tooling (B), and remove guides (5) from both sides of the track roller frame. 7. Fasten a hoist to front track roller frame (6) as shown.8. Install tool (C) from the front track roller frame to a stationary object. Use the hoist and tool (C) to pull the front track roller frame part way out of the rear track roller frame. 9. Put tool (D) in position to protect the seal. 10. Put a nylon strap around the front track roller frame as shown and install tool (C) between the hoist and the nylon strap to make the front track roller frame level. Remove front track roller frame (6). The weight of the front track roller frame is 1565 Kg (3450 lb.).
Earlier
Later On earlier track roller frames, seal (8) is a lip-type seal. On later track roller frames, seal (8) is a "limited slip" seal.
The seals may be damaged if they are removed from the track roller frame.
11. Remove seal (8) (earlier or later), lip-type seal (9) and bearing (7) from the rear track roller frame. 12. If necessary, remove bearing (10) from the front track roller frame.Install Front Track Roller Frames
1. Install bearing (7) and lip-type seal (9) in the rear track roller frame. Install the seal with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the rear track roller frame as shown.2. Make sure the seal bore in the rear track roller frame is clean and free of dirt, oil and old adhesive.3. Put 7M7456 Bearing Mount on the seal bore. If seal (8) was removed, replace the seal (earlier or later) with the "limited slip" type seal.4. Use tooling (E) and (F) to install seal (8) in the rear track roller frame. Install the seal with the oil side toward the inside of the rear track roller frame. When the seal is fully installed, there will be a 5 mm (.197 in.) gap between the seal inside diameter and the track roller frame.5. Put clean SAE 30 oil on the lip of seal (9) and the inside diameter of seal (8). 6. Cut tool (D) to make a
