& Install Aftercooler Core
FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "TOOLS AND SHOP PRODUCT GUIDE, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.1. Drain the coolant from the aftercooler into a suitable container for storage or disposal. 2. Remove six fuel injection line mounting brackets (1).3. Remove four bolts and washers (2).4. Remove two air inlet elbows (3). Remove the gasket between air inlet elbow three and the aftercooler cover.5. Remove twenty-two bolts and washers (4).6. Remove aftercooler housing cover (5). 7. Remove four bolts (6) from water inlet and outlet elbows (7).8. Remove water inlet and outlet elbows (7) from connections (8) and (9). Remove the O-ring seals. 9. Pull outer adapter (10) with the O-ring seal out of inner adapter (11). 10. Pull inner adapter (11) with the O-ring seal out of aftercooler housing (12). Remove the O-ring seal from inner adapter (11).11. Repeat Steps 9 and 10 for the other adapter.12. Remove eight bolts and washers (13) 13. Attach a suitable lifting device to aftercooler core (12) as shown. The weight of the aftercooler core is approximately 16 kg (35 lb).14. Carefully lift aftercooler core (12) out of the aftercooler housing. When removing the aftercooler core, tilt the aftercooler core up slightly as shown for clearance and ease of removal.15. Remove O-ring seals (14) from the tubes on the aftercooler core. The following steps are for installation of the aftercooler core. Prior to installation, check all O-ring seals for damage or wear and replace if necessary. Coat the seals with clean engine oil. For installation of the aftercooler core, reverse the removal steps.16. Fill the aftercooler with coolant to the correct level. See the Operation & Maintenance Manual.
