Machine Stopping
Park on a level surface. If it is necessary to park on a grade, block the tracks securely.Do not engage the parking brake while the machine is moving unless an emergency exists.
1. Apply the service brakes to stop the machine. 2. Move the transmission control to NEUTRAL. 3. Engage the parking brake.4. Lower the dozer blade and all attachments to the ground. Apply slight down pressure.Engine Stopping
Stopping the engine immediately after it has been working under load, can result in overheating and accelerated wear of the engine components.See the following stopping procedure, to allow the engine to cool, and to prevent excessive temperatures in the turbocharger center housing, which could cause oil coking problems.
1. With the machine stopped, run the engine for five minutes at LOW IDLE. 2. Push the governor lever all the way forward and stop the engine. Turn the start switch key to OFF. Remove the key.Leaving Machine
1. Use the steps and handholds, use both hands and face the machine, when dismounting. 2. Inspect the engine compartment for debris. Clean out any debris and paper to avoid a fire.3. Remove all flammable debris from front bottom guard through the access doors to reduce fire hazard.4. If the machine is being parked for an extended period (such as overnight), turn the battery disconnect switch key to OFF and remove the key.5. Investigate the travel route for overpass clearances. Make sure there is adequate clearance if the machine being transported is equipped with a ROPS/FOPS, cab or canopy.To prevent the machine from slipping while loading, or shifting in transit, remove ice, snow or other slippery material from the loading dock and the truck bed before loading.
Obey all state and local laws governing the weight, width and length of a load.Observe all regulations governing wide loads.

Improper lifting or tiedowns allows load to shift and cause injury or damage.
1. Weight and instructions given herein apply to units manufactured by Caterpillar Inc. 2. Parking brake must be engaged before slinging or tiedown.3. Use proper rated cables and slings for lifting. Position slings beneath track at front and rear for machine without ripper. Position slings beneath track at front and under ripper at rear for machine with ripper.4. On sharp corners, use corner protectors. Position crane for level machine lift. Spreader bar widths should be sufficient to prevent contact with machine. 5.
