Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Failure to properly clean any of the listed areas may cause an improper seal at the lower injector O-ring seal. This could result in tip damage or injector failure due to leakage of combustion gas into the fuel passage.
Note: Cleanliness is essential to the proper sealing of the unit injector. All carbon deposits should be removed from the unit injector sleeve and the bore. Carbon deposits should also be removed from the 120 degree angled surface at the bottom of the unit injector sleeve.
Use Tooling (B) to clean the carbon deposits from the bore of the unit injector sleeve.
Use Tooling (C) to determine that an adequate amount of carbon has been removed from the unit injector sleeve and the bore. Tooling (C) must come in contact with the top of the unit injector sleeve.

Install new O-ring seals (2) and gasket (3) on unit injector sleeve (1).
Lubricate O-ring seals (2) with clean engine oil.

Apply Tooling (D) to unit injector sleeve (1). Use Tooling (A) in order to install the unit injector sleeve in the cylinder head and tighten to a torque of 100 10 N m (74 7 lb ft).
Refill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change". End By:
