Clean/Flush Cooling System if Using Extended Life Coolant (ELC)
For engines using ELC, the cooling system needs to be cleaned and flushed every 6000 hours or 4 years. CLEAN WATER is the only system cleaning/flushing agent required if ELC was previously used.When changing to ELC, Caterpillar cleaner should be used. After the cleaning solution has been drained, it is VERY IMPORTANT that a thorough water flush be used to remove ALL of the cleaning agent.
Mixing ELC with other products will reduce the effectiveness of the coolant. This could result in damage to cooling system components. If Caterpillar products are not available and commercial products must be used, make sure they have passed the Caterpillar EC-1 specification for pre-mixed or concentrate coolants and Caterpillar Extender.

Change
1. Rotate the hub until the filler plug (1) is in the TOP position.2. Remove the bleed plug (2), and remove the filler plug (1).3. Drain the oil into a suitable container.4. Apply new thread sealant and reinstall the drain plug (2).5. Remove bleed plug (3).6. Fill the hub with Castrol FSX 5W-50 until the oil comes out of the bleed hole. The hub is filled to the proper level.7. Apply new thread sealant and reinstall the filler and bleed plugs.8. Check for oil leaks.
