18. Remove race (19) from the housing. 19. Remove shims (22), spider gear (21) and sleeves (20) from the case. Keep shims (22) together for assembly purposes.20. If necessary remove the O-ring seals from the sleeves. 21. Remove bearing cup (23) from the case. 22. Remove bearing cones (24) from spider gear (21). 23. Put the transfer gear case on its opposite side and remove retarder control valve (25) and scavenge pump (26) from the case. 24. Remove bolt (27) and washer (28) from the drive shaft gear. 25. Use Tooling (C) to remove yoke (29) from the drive shaft gear. 26. Use Tooling (D) to remove ring (30) from yoke (29). 27. Remove bolts (31) that hold pump cages (32) and drive shaft cage (33) to the case. 28. Use two 1/2 in - 13 NC Forcing Screws (34) to remove pump cages (32) and drive shaft cage (33) from the case. 29. Remove O-ring seals (36) and bearing cups (35) from pump cages (32). 30. Remove bearing cup (38) and seal (37) from drive shaft cage (33). 31. Remove shims (39) from the case. Make sure each of the shim packs are kept together for assembly purposes. 32. Remove drive shaft gear (40) from the case. 33. Remove bearing cones (41) from drive shaft gear (40). 34. Remove pump gears (42) from the case. 35. Use Tooling (D) and remove bearing cones (43) from pump gears (42). 36. Remove bearing cups (45) from the case.37. If necessary, remove the clips, tubes (44) and the adapter from the case. Assemble Engine Transfer Gears
1. Inspect all parts for wear or damage and make a replacement if necessary. 2. Install the adapter, tubes (1) and the clips in the case.3. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (2) and install them in the case as shown. 4. Heat bearing cones (3) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F) and install them on pump gears (4). Apply tooling (C) to bearing cones (3). 5. Install pump gears (4) in the case as shown. 6. Heat bearing cone (6) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F) and install them on drive shaft gear (5). Apply tooling (C) to bearing cone (6). 7. Install drive shaft gear (5) in the case as shown. 8. Use Tool group (A) and install the seal in drive shaft cage (6). Make sure the lip of the seal is toward the drive shaft gear as shown.9. Lower the temperature of the bearing cup and install it in drive shaft cage (6). 10. Install O-ring seals (9) on pump cages (7).11. Lower the temperature of bearing cups (8) and install them in pump cages (7). 12. Put original shims (11) in position on the case for the two pump cages (7) and drive shaft cage (6).13. Use two 1/2 in - NC Guide Bolts (10) to install two pump cages (7) and drive shaft cage (6) on the case and install the bolts that hold them. 14. Use
