PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REPLACING THE DE-RATE CONTROLLER

Dear Cat Product Owner:
The De-rate Engine Controller needs to be replaced on the products listed below. The existing De-rate Controller may not have been paired with its matched engine. This may result in a change in performance and emissions. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 27Feb2017 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, and urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

Rework Procedure
Refer to the engine's Operation and Maintenance Manual and the machine's Operation and Maintenance Manual safety sections adhering to the safety instructions prior to commencing any work on the machine. Refer to other service manuals is/as necessary.
Prior to commencing this rework, a paired controller and rework label will need to be obtained through DSN by the Dealer Technical Communicator submitting a DSN Product Health Service Request and referencing this publication number requesting a new controller and rework label.
The rework label will be packaged with the controller and does not need to be ordered separately.
As each controller is paired to a specific engine, the engine serial number will need to be documented through DSN Service Request to obtain the correctly paired controller.
Refer to Image 1.1.1 and Image 1.1.2 to identify the engine serial number.
Even if the engine serial number on the engine (Image 1.1.1 and Image 1.1.2) and the engine serial number on the controller (Image 1.1.4) match, the controller must be replaced with a new controller.
A label containing field fix information will be supplied to the dealer as part of this service letter rework and must be affixed to the reworked engine.
Once this label has been received the rework can be carried out.

When the new controller has been received, proceed with replacing the old controller with the newly received controller. Where required, refer to the machine's service manual for details on how to replace the controller.
If your dealership has sourced multiple controllers, be sure to fit the correct controller for the engine you are servicing. This can be done by ensuring that the engine serial number on the engine and the engine serial number on the new controller match.
Adhere the field fix label (example shown in Image 1.2.1) onto the right hand side of the engine rocker cover central panel in the approximate location shown in Image 1.2.2.
