Each solenoid controls oil pressure to the end of one spool. If no pilot pressure oil is acting against the end of the spools, spring force will hold the spools against the stops. Switches in the transmission control lever direct electrical signals to the transmission electronic control module (ECM). The ECM activates the solenoids that control the speed and the direction of the transmission.
