INSTALL TIMING PIN
5. Timing pin. To change the position of timing gear (11) the fuel injection pump housing must be removed from the engine.10. Install but do not tighten washer and cap screw (6).11. Turn the fuel injection pump camshaft until timing pin (5) can be installed in the injection pump.12. With both the timing pin and the timing bolt in place, install a 3/8-24 NF bolt., 5 in. (12.7 mm) long, in one of the holes in the timing gear. Put a torque wrench on the bolt with the wrench in line with the center of the timing gear. Put a torque on the bolt of 60 to 70 N m (45 to 50 lb.ft.) in the clockwise direction when viewed from the timing gear end of the engine, and hold. Tighten cap screw (6) that holds the timing gear to 149 7 N m (110 5 lb. ft.).
TIGHTENING TIMING GEAR BOLT13. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel and the timing pin from the fuel injection pump. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 until the timing is correct.Checking Timing By The Fuel Flow Method

Make reference to FINDING TOP CENTER COMPRESSION POSITION FOR NO. 1 PISTON. Remove the timing bolt and turn the flywheel 360° until the timing bolt can be installed again. This puts the No. 6 piston at TDC on the compression stroke.2. Remove the timing bolt from the flywheel.3. Remove the fuel nozzle from the precombustion chamber for No. 6 cylinder.4. Put the 5P7265 Adapter (3) in precombustion chamber (4) and tighten the adapter finger tight. Put 3S3264 Rod (5) in 5P7265 Adapter (3). Install the 3P1565 Collet (1).
MEASURING PISTON TRAVEL
1. 3P1565 Collet. 2. 9S215 Dial Indicator. 3. 5P7265 Adapter. 4. Precombustion chamber. 5. 3S3264 Rod. 6. Inlet port. 7. Piston. 8. Crankshaft.5. Put the 9S215 Dial Indicator (2) with 3S3269 Contact Point in adapter (3). Make an adjustment to the dial indicator so both pointers are on "O" (zero).6. Turn the crankshaft a minimum of 45° in the CLOCKWISE direction as seen from the flywheel end of the engine.
Do not use a wrench to tighten the adapter. There will be damage to the nozzle seat if the adapter is too tight.
TIMING INDICATOR GROUP INSTALLED
2. 9S215 Dial Indicator. 3. 5P7265 Adapter.7. Turn the crankshaft in the counterclockwise direction until the No. 6 piston is at the top of its stroke. Adjust the dial indicator, if necessary, to put both of the dials at "O" (zero).
FUEL INJECTION PUMP
8. Constant bleed valve. 9. Fuel inlet port. 10. Fuel pressure port.8. Disconnect the fuel return line from constant bleed valve (8). Plug the line and install 8S4950 Cap on the valve.9. Disconnect the fuel inlet line from fuel inlet port (9). Install FT1649 Plug and 3J1907 O-ring Seal in fuel inlet port. Install FT1610 Adapter on fuel inlet line.10. Remove the
