773B TrucksReference: "New Front Service Brake Used; New Wheel Bearing Adjustment Procedure," Service Magazine, November 2, 1981; Page 4.Description of Change: The reference article tells of the new caliper-type front disc brakes which are used on 768C Tractors and 769C Trucks. The new brakes give improved performance and longer service life in comparison to the former expansion-type brakes. The 772B Tractors and 773B Trucks now use the caliper-type front disc brakes.
The same basic caliper groups and discs used in the 768C Tractors and 769C Trucks are also used in the 772B Tractors and 773B Trucks, but the mounting plates and hardware are different. Hardened bearing retainers similar to those added to the 768C Tractors and 769C Trucks were already used in the 772B Tractors and 773B Trucks.
Adaptable To: The new brakes are in effect with Serial Numbers 63W899 and 64W159. Conversion to the new, caliper-type front disc brakes is not practical because of the cost.
