Rubber toric seals and all surfaces in contact with them must be clean and dry at assembly. Put a thin layer of oil on the surfaces of the metal seals that are in contact just before installation. The wheel brakes adjust automatically and need only an adjustment at assembly or when brake linings are replaced.1. Remove both covers at a wheel brake.2. Turn adjusting bolt (6) until brake shoe (10) is against drum (3). Do not force the adjusting bolt.
To prevent damage to the adjuster boot, be careful when the adjuster is turned. A damaged adjuster boot on the brake can cause the brake cylinder to not operate correctly.
3. Turn adjusting bolt (6) in the opposite direction (back off) sixteen notches or clicks of the detent. The head of the adjusting bolt has fourteen notches.4. At the center of brake shoe (10), measure the clearance between the lining and drum (3) with a feeler gauge. Brake shoe (10) is correctly adjusted when there is 0.5 to 0.8 mm (.019 to .031 in.) or less clearance between the brake lining and brake drum (3). The brake lining must not touch the brake drum when the brake is released.5. Use adjusting bolt (5) and do Steps 2 through 4 again for brake shoe (9).6. Install the covers on the wheel brake.7. Do Steps 1 through 6 again for the other three wheel brakes.
