9. Install steering column positioner bracket and rack (12) with four bolts, lockwashers and washers.10. With the steering column forward in the stored position, adjust stop (13) flat against the transmission control lever, then tighten with bolts and washers (14). Transmission must not engage when a maximum force of 90 N (20 lb.) is put on the transmission control handle. 11. Install cover (15) over the steering positioner bracket. Then install eight bolts, lockwashers and washers. 12. Install panel and seal (16) with five screws and lockwashers.Disassemble Adjustable Steering Column
START BY:a) remove adjustable steering column 1. Remove four bolts (2) from the column and remove cap (1) and shaft assembly. The bearing on the lower end of the shaft assembly has to come out of the column with the shaft assembly. 2. Remove ring (4) from cap (1) and remove the cap from shaft assembly (3). 3. Remove snap ring (5) from shaft assembly (3) at the steering wheel end. 4. Remove two bearings (6) from shaft assembly with tooling (A). 5. Remove bearing (7) from cap (1). 6. Remove transmission control lever assembly (8) from the steering column. 7. Turn handle (9) to remove rack (10) from lever assembly (8). Remove screw (11) and handle (9). 8. Loosen setscrew (14) and remove collar (12) from shaft (13), then remove a ring and washer from lever assembly (8). Remove shaft (13) and spacer. 9. Remove seal (15) and two bearings from lever assembly (8). 10. Remove one setscrew (17) and loosen one below it. Remove two rings on each side of gear (18), then remove shaft (19) and gear (18) from column (16). 11. Remove one setscrew (21) and loosen the setscrew below it. Loosen setscrew (22) and remove one ring from each side of bellcrank (20). Remove shaft (23) and bellcrank (20). 12. Remove bearings (24) and (25) from the gear and the bellcrank. 13. Remove screw and washer (28) and cam (29). Remove cotter pin, washer and pin (27) from rod (26), then move lockpin (30) and remove rod (26) from steering column. 14. Remove cotter pin, washer and pin (32) that connect bellcrank (34) to the spring loaded pin (31). Remove snap ring and washer (33) from the bellcrank pivot shaft, then remove bellcrank (34), washer and another snap ring. 15. Remove bearing (35) from bellcrank (36). 16. Remove spring loaded pin (38) and spring (37). 17. Remove nut (41) from lock (40) and remove the lock from the opposite side of the steering column. Remove locking pin (39) from steering column. 18. Remove two bearings (42) from the inside the outside of steering column (16).Assemble Adjustable Steering Column
Put 5P960 Multipurpose Type Grease on all pins and rods and in the bearings of all bores. 1. Install two bearings in the bottom end of steering column (1) with tooling (A). 2. Install spring (3) and pin (2) in the steering column. The upper hole in pin (2) can be used to hold it in the
