Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the carburetor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Carburetor - Remove" for the engine that is being serviced.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Remove bolts (1), the washers, the gasket, and adapter (2) from the carburetor.

Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.Spring force will be released when covers are removed.Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.
Remove screws (4), the lockwashers, and cover (3).

Remove spring (5) and diaphragm assembly (6).

Remove screws (7) and throttle plate (9).
Remove throttle lever (8), the lever stop, and the shaft.

Remove seal (10) from the nipple.
Remove idle screw (11) and the spring.
Illustration 6 g00992213Note: Place identification marks on throttle base (13) and the base assembly for use during the assembly procedure.
Remove screws (12), the lockwashers, throttle base (13), and the gasket from the base assembly.

Use a screwdriver in order to remove retainer (14).
Remove seal (15).

Remove bearing (16) from throttle base (13).
Turn over throttle base (13). Repeat steps 9 through 11.
