1. Disconnect three wires (2) from the alternator. Put identification on the wires so they will not be mixed at assembly.2. Loosen bolts (4) and (5). Loosen nuts (1) on the adjustment rod until vee belt (3) can be removed from the alternator pulley. 3. Remove bolts (4), (5) and (6). Remove alternator (7).Install Alternator
1. Put alternator (1) in position on the bracket. Install the bolts that hold it. Install the bolt that holds the adjustment rod block to the alternator. 2. Put vee belt (3) in position on the alternator pulley. Use one of the following procedures to make an adjustment to vee belt tension: a) Use a Borroughs Gauge BT-33-72C to check the belt tension. Tighten the nut on the adjustment rod until the indication on the Borroughs Gauge is 120 5 for a new belt or 90 10 for a used belt. A used vee belt is one which has more than thirty minutes of engine use at high idle.b) Tighten the adjustment rod nut until the vee belt has a movement (deflection) of .562 to .812 in. (14 to 20 mm) under a 25 lb. (110 N) force half way between the centers of the pulleys.3. Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of 75 10 lb.ft. (100 15 N m). Tighten adjustment rod nut (2) to a torque of 110 15 lb.ft. (149 20 N m).4. Connect three wires (4) to the alternator.
