Remove the flywheel.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Illustration 1 g01294474Note: It is not necessary to remove adapter (4) in order to remove the crankshaft rear seal.
Remove bolts (2) that hold the crankshaft rear seal and adapter (1) in place.
Install Tooling (A) in adapter (1). Tighten Tooling (A) evenly. Remove the crankshaft rear seal and adapter (1) from the flywheel housing.
Install Tooling (B) through the holes in adapter (4).
Remove bolts (3) that hold adapter (4) in place.
Slide adapter (4) onto Tooling (B). Attach a suitable lifting device to adapter (4). The weight of adapter (4) is approximately 65 kg (143 lb). Remove adapter (4) from Tooling (B). Installation Procedure

Install Tooling (B) in the rear of the crankshaft. Note: The dash marks on the sleeve in adapter (4) must be aligned with the dash mark on the crankshaft.
Attach a suitable lifting device to adapter (4). The weight of adapter (4) is approximately 65 kg (143 lb). Place adapter (4) in position on Tooling (B). Install bolts (3) that hold adapter (4) in place.
Remove Tooling (B). Note: The crankshaft rear seal must be installed with the lip of the seal toward the inside of the engine. Ensure that the correct seal is installed on each end of the crankshaft.
Install Tooling (C) in the flywheel housing.
Apply Tooling (D) to the O-ring seal on the outside diameter of adapter (1). Note: Ensure that all the parts are clean. Do not touch the lip of the seal. Do not use lubricant on the lip of the seal. Ensure that the arrow on the seal points in the same direction as the crankshaft rotation.
Place the crankshaft rear seal and adapter (1) on Tooling (C). Carefully slide the crankshaft rear seal and adapter (1) on the flywheel housing.
Install bolts (2) that hold the crankshaft rear seal and adapter (1) in place. End By:
Install the flywheel.
