MID ECM CID 1383 FMI 11Conditions Which Generate This Code:The ECM sees an unexpected engine shutdown due to an engine stall or another unexpected engine event. This code will become active after the engine is running and the engine speed goes to zero without using a normal shutdown procedure. If this diagnostic code was generated by an engine-related issue such a EUI or HEUI fuel system-related issue, refer to the troubleshooting guide for the engine. Continue with this procedure if the diagnostic code was generated while the engine was shifting from ahead to astern or astern to ahead.Note: Older versions of ECM software may generate this code when the Remote Shutdown Switch is activated.System Response:There are three types of shift (anti-stall) protection in the MSCS.
Normal Shift ProtectionThe MSCS will not shift into gear until the engine speed is below the adjustable limit of "Maximum Engine Speed To Shift". Shift in Progress when shifting from the opposite gear (fwd to rev or rev to fwd) the engine speed is held below the programmable limit "Maximum Engine Speed During Shift" until the transmission pressure increases above the "Transmission Engaged Pressure Limit".
Wheel Drag Down Shift Protection (WDD)WDD provides a boost in desired engine speed during the shift to avoid stalls. WDD shift protection is enabled when the transmission is in-gear, the engine speed is greater than the programmable value "Wheel Drag Down Enable Maximum Engine Speed" and for a length of time greater than the programmable value "Wheel Drag Down Enable Delay Time". WDD shift protection will be disabled when the engine speed is less than the programmable value "Wheel Drag Down Enable Maximum Engine Speed" and for a length of time greater than the programmable value "Wheel Drag Down Disable Delay Time".

The WDD operates as follows:
The throttle is taken from full ahead to astern. The shift process will not begin until the engine slows to the "Maximum Engine Speed to Shift" set point.
Once the engine speed drops below this point, the transmission clutch pressure from the forward gear clutch pack is dumped and the shift begins. Engine speed now increases to "WDD Hold Min Engine Speed".
As the shift is in process, the transmission pressure begins to increase. Once the pressure increases above the "Trans Engaged Pressure Limit", the shift is considered complete.
The engine speed is now allowed to return to the ECMs Desired Engine Speed.
Slow Vessel Mode Shift ProtectionSVM Shift Protection is only active while the engine is in Slow Vessel Mode. SVM Shift protection provides a boost in desired engine speed during the shift to avoid stalls.
